A book review: Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis

Lewis, being a former atheist now tackles the faith he once opposed and discussed the essentials of Christianity (for him). True to his preface, he tried to avoid explaining the stigmas, traditions and views of different denominations and focused on some of the non-negotiable doctrines of Christianity.

Some of the issues he tackled as a layman are: incarnation, Trinity, Deity of Jesus, Faith, Hope, Love, God’s eternalness, God’s omnipresence and holiness.

Strip of the programs, religiosity, traditions and false views, what is mere Christianity? Despite the amazing stories in the bible what or rather, who does it talk about? And in the middle of inquiries can we answer to skeptic people the reason for our faith?

After reading the book it refreshed my love for the Lord. What started as a philosophical course finished in worship. At the heart of it all, in the beginning; indeed it was God. And this self-existing, independent God made His dwelling among us, became human; Jesus God-revealed.

  1. My wife and I enjoyed it too from young ages. Always good to find another person who enjoys CS Lewis! In addition to his works I recommend “Reading the Classics with CS Lewis” edited by Thomas Martin which gives insight into Lewis’ life, knowledge base and mindsets. And one of Lewis’ “mentors” George MacDonald’s Unspoken Sermons.
