The God of science

The God of Science

I simply believe that everyone bows down (and in that case, will bow down) before God. I agree with A.W. Tozer’s observation that man (at least the modern man in this case) kneels down before God either in holy reverence, devotion and worship or in investigation of the things around him.

I truly find it amazing that sometimes he who studies the human mind, in all its complexities forgets the One who can fully discern man’s mind or the singer who is well aware of the beauty in the symphony of notes forgets the Creator of music; or consider the doctor who is aware of the body’s physiology and anatomy turns out to be hostile to the Lord of healing and miracles.

I, myself studied anatomy and physiology (the study of the parts and functions of the body) as a requirement for my course and we LABORED over the mastery of the cells and tissues and their respective functions. Now, I acknowledge that our Ana-Physio is NOTHING compared too a medical student’s venture or the doctor’s research into the human structure. We are appalled by the body’s complicated functions and amazed at how one part fits another one or entertained by knowing why something happens (such as why we sneeze, yawn, cough, sneeze and the like).

Perhaps it is this revelation of the HOW’s and WHY’s where people who gain knowledge sometimes stray away from God. I am a fan of House M.D. , the fictitious genius who is an arrogant, somewhere-between-an-agnostic-atheist doctor who loves to mock God. I like the cases featured in the show, however; sadly; there are people like him not only in the medical field but in all other fields as well.

A psychologist/psychiatrist psychoanalyzes our soul, a philosopher/sociologists relativists post-modernizes our faith, a scientist devalues our Creator. It seems that the more knowledge we acquire, the more we endanger ourselves of our Source of knowledge. Truly “knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.” (1Corinthians8:1)
To be fair there ARE experts, professionals who love God. They not only abound in knowledge and practicality but they are built on love. They rightly handle the knowledge given to them and they continue to marvel at the Creator. O, how I sometimes envy them for they know how things work yet they still maintain that child-like amazement! Powerful in knowledge yet deep in devotion and outstanding in humility.
Perhaps we should learn from them, on how to handle knowledge. Let us stop feeling superior just because we know the whys, hows or the ins and outs of something while forgetting that there would not be a something if it were not for the Someone who created it in the first place.

Let us stop disbelieving just because we haven’t proven something yet
I humbly acknowledge that Science is man’s complicated way of discovering and explaining God’s created simplicity.
God delights in concealing things;scientists delight in discovering things. – Proverbs 25:2 (Message)

Nothing clever, nothing conceived, nothing contrived, can get the better of God. – Proverbs 21:30 (Message)

  1. So true. I’m actually a medical student myself, and I’m blown away at how easily some of my classmates can dismiss the obvious Design of the human body.
