The Opinionated Jesus part 1/5
“Well that’s your opinion….”, “Everyone is free to say anything he wants..”, “ Everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion…”, “Well, as long as you are happy with that and that is what you believe in…”.
How many times do we hear these statements? In a democratic country like ours, opinions matter (and I agree) but we do fail to realize the boundary it should possess. Opinions are NOT necessarily truths and truths are NOT necessarily opinions. Truth is never dependent upon the consensus of opinions.
It was Jesus’ statements that mostly got him to trouble:
“I tell you the truth, before Abraham was even born, I AM!” – John 8:58NLT
“ I and the Father (God) are one…I am the bread…”
People at his time were berserk with the claims of Jesus, it was with authority, with genuiness it is… the truth. A hard truth.
But now Jesus’ truths are but one more interesting opinion.
“I tell y ou the truth” he says.
“What a nice opinion, I’ll consider that. You have your own view, I have my view, mind your own business” we respond.
In our time where everyone speaks, therefore everyone has their own world; the teachings of Jesus are now opinions of Jesus.
“You never know how much you really believe anything until its truth or falsehood becomes a matter of life and death to you. “ C.S. Lewis.
Honestly, do you want your life to stand on opinions? From views? Or do you want it to be the truth? When you go to a doctor for a treatment do you want their opinion or the truth? When you are with someone you love, do you want their opinion of their feelings for you or the truth?
Therefore; Jesus’ mega-claims, words and teachings can only be treated in two ways; either it is the truth or it is false, but to say it is an opinion is nonsense.
