What do you have?
I do believe that you cannot give what you don’t have. It’s logical and true, if you don’t have seeds, you can’t sow; if you can’t sow, you can’t reap. However, I don’t believe that what you have is EQUAL to what you can give.
I was studying Mark 6:35-44 this was when Jesus was spending some private time with his disciples when a great crowd happened to follow them. Jesus had compassion on them and he taught them great and many things. When the day was about to be over, the disciples suggested to Jesus to send them home because they can’t feed this great number of people.
‘But he (Jesus) answered, “You give them something to eat.”
They (the disciples) said to him, “That would take eight months of a man’s wages! Are we to go and spend that much on bread and give it to them to eat?”
“How many loaves do you have?” he (Jesus) asked. “Go and see.”
When they found out, they said, “Five—and two fish.” ‘ (mark6:37-38 NIV, emphasis added)
And after that Jesus grouped them and blessed the food the whole crowd got fed and a surplus of 12 baskets of bread and fish were left.
I believe the same thing happens to us. When we know that God asks us to do something we give reasons like: I don’t have the resources, I don’t have the talent, I don’t have the experience yet, I’m not ready yet, I don’t have what it takes, but here Jesus is saying: “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.”
It hit me as like he was asking me, What do you have? Go and see.
I have in me the God of the universe, telling me to do something, ain’t that enough?
What matters here is do you know His will for you? Do you have faith in Him? That even if what you have right now is logically not enough, you are sure that God will multiply it and you’ll reap more than what you’ve sown.
Don’t get me wrong, I do believe that a certain amount of knowledge, skills, attitude and experience is very helpful in doing a task, but it doesn’t rely there. You still can’t give what you don’t have. When God wants you to do something now he is saying ” the little you have I will multiply”. The experience you have right now maybe all you need to do what God calls you to do. We won’t ever be ready, we have to go out.
