Consistently inconsistent
Consistency is one determining factor for excellence. Can you uphold that standard all the time? We all heard of people who are great in the beginning of their work or semester, but down the road they lowered their standards, became lazy or became mediocre. I think we are all consistent with our inconsistencies. The following are some ways that has helped me keep back on track.
1) Clarify, internalize and apply what is required of you.
Re visit your job description and review your goals. Put it on paper, get a post it app on your Android phone, make it your wallpaper, whatever it takes to remind you of what is required of you.
2) Ask help.
In a company usually there is a performance review. Embrace the comments and ask help. Look for someone that can be trusted, tell them your goals and give them the permission to check on you or correct you and don’t make it personal when they do.
3) Find ways to enjoy it.
You may not be able to do something with your situation, then the best way is to enjoy doing it. Don’t be too serious. Smile, laugh, make friends, if possible, create good memories. This makes it easier for you to do your job when you know that you enjoy the people you are with.
4)Do what is right.
Do what is right all the time. This saves you from compromises. Define your stand and conviction so that when a temptation to lower your standards come, you will find yourself facing the clear fence you placed ahead.
5)Ask God’s help.
For me, the times I compromised in excellence are the times I became proud and relied on my own strength. I believe God will give us the grace according to the situation we are in. And whatever happens, I know he is there.
