Goodbye excellence

Excellence in the work place/campuses is one of those values that is slowly dying. Some reasons for this is the growing culture of pleasure and selfishness. We just want pleasure, we want to rest more and we reward ourselves too soon. Mention excellence now in the work place and sometimes it is perceived as a jargon, if not an unattainable characteristic. Mention excellence in the campuses and students will tell you they need it but not now. But the sad reality is we want to experience EXCELLENCE, excellent services, excellent food, excellent shows but when it comes to us doing it, we settle for less…. Selfishness. Hoarding what we can get and putting a standard to other people to which we don’t want to bear.

I see excellence as accountability, hard work, consistency, creativity and being purpose-driven.

And mind you, I’m selfish as well and I sometimes do things that lack excellence, but this will not stop me in the pursuit of being the best I can be for God’s glory, the society and for my personal development. No one is saying we should be perfect, but no one wants to stay pathetic, so let’s say goodbye to our excellence in being ‘un-excellent’.
