If God is love then Love is God

Ever heard of this argument?

Some people have this belief thus having a wrong notion of God and love altogether.

“If God is love in his metaphysical being, then God and love are equal to each other-identical. We could worship love as God!” – A.W. Tozer.

And this is what happens to our society. We worship love. Love as an emotion and will. We worship the decisions of our deceitful heart.

“…[but] we would be worshiping an attribute of personality and not the Person Himself, thereby destroying in one sweep all the other attributes of the deity” – continued Tozer.

We tend to specifically take one attribute of God and make it fit to our wants, while at the same time ‘spiritualizing’ and ‘philosophizing’ things. We choose to drop God’s claim to be a warrior, light, life, refuge, judge, being holy, etc…

“ ‘ God is love’ but this is not a definition of God. It is most important to understand this. There are ..great…many people that are saying that God is love so love is God and therefore all is love and all is God. These people are busy and happy for the time being. But they are also very, very confused n their theology…when we say God is love we mean that God’s love is such that it permeates His essential being and conditions all that He does. Nothing God ever does or ever did or ever will do is done separate from the love of God.” – A.W. Tozer.

It’s amazing to know wherever we are and whatever God does is an expression, an outflow, a character of His love.

Well then, another problem arises and that is the problem of love and pain…
