In between two worlds

I was coaching a while ago to a couple of students on how to preach the bible more effectively and also suggesting how to make their devotional time more fruitful. While discussing I was just humbled by the thought that God’s message for us never changed. Even though at first, everytime we read the bible it seems like they belonged to a different world. But the truth is, although there are cultural differences, time and technological advances, some things still remain.

In the beginning: GOD

The greatest problem of Man back then and until now: SIN

Man’s greatest need: GOD

The solution for man’s greatest problem: JESUS

The only thing that remains:GOD

So when preaching the Word, we must remember that we live in 2 worlds.
1)The biblical world-therefore we must study the context and cultural variety of the time it was written. What is God doing in his story for redemption?
2)The current world- what are the principles, problems and solutions that are still the same? How can it apply today? What is the current status of our world? What are the dreams, hopes, fears, idols, frustrations of our current generation? How can we appropriate the bible truth to God’s plan for redemption?

Yes things may have changed, but the bible is still the most relevant book there is. It has withstood time and I’m certain it will continue to do so.
