My top 9 for 2018
Here are my top 9 movies in Netflix (na available pa as of the moment) that I watched (or rewatched) this year and yes marami dito mejo oooooold movies. Old movies for me are at an advantage because they don’t rely much on CG (computer graphics) and would have to rely heavily on dialogue, practical effects and camera story telling.
I chose them because of the plot, the story telling, sound editing, and cinematography. I don’t agree with all of their scenes or the values that they stand for though, but overall I enjoyed how the movie was made.
After reading, share ka naman!!!
9 – The Intern (2015) – I watched it again with my mom this Christmas and I liked how feel good it is. It shows the need for gentlemen, the value of family, woman empowerment and entrepreneurship.

8- Bird Box (2018) – Probably the only modern (and Netflix) produced movie in my list. A Quiet Place for the eyes. The themes of vision and hope and the character development got me into this.

7 – Touch of Evil (1958) – I just love Orson Welles the director. His opening shot of the movie is a genius and how his camera tells a story in itself. How he uses light and darkness is all accounted for.

6 – The Shining (1980) – A horror movie from Stephen King’s novel, although I am not into horror movies, I just loved how Stanley Kubrick made the film, his cinematography, his iconic shots that has become pop culture and Jack Nicholson’s superb acting. His face itself is scary.

5 – Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind (2004) – This is not an ordinary romantic comedy. The script is amazing along with the performance of Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet. And ang bata pa ni Mary Jane, Frodo at Hulk dito 🙂

4 – Psycho (the 1960 version) – Another psychological thriller that I think has paved the way for horror and psychological thriller genre. Ang galing ng scenes and the music! Kinabahan si Geh kahit hindi siya nakatingin at nanunuod.

3 – Birdman or (the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014) – A movie that was created to look like it was made in one long take, I love how it played on the tension of trying to do something that matters and how trying to fit in the world’s standard are in itself is pressuring. Coupled with the cinematography of the movie, and Michael Keaton’s and Emma Stone’s acting, ang galing!

2 – 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) – Another Stanley Kucrick. How did they do this during their time? The practical effects, music, cinematography and the shots are classic! The themes of technology and its take on humanity and the effects it does to us are very much relevant today. It is also amazing how this 60’s movie predicted the technology that we have right now. (Tablet, video calls, inflight TV, Artificial Intelligence, etc)

1 – Vertigo (1958) – I didn’t expect this movie’s ending and it’s plot twist. It’s shots, cinematography and edit for me is amazing considering the time it was released. This is a psychological thriller that I love the most this year.
