Reflections on God’s People

While I was reading about the Lord’s great saints, his devout followers and their lives, I can’t help but recognize the zeal they have for God’s wonderful grace.

These people came from the depths and were brought to life by God’s gracious acts and His sovereignty in their lives. They cried about their depravity, their total dependence on you, my God. Their nothingness apart from you is impossible to be missed as one reads of their lives.

Abraham was a liar, Jacob a deceiver, Joseph a brat, Moses a murderer, Samson was self-conceited, David an adulterer, Jeremiah an emo-kid, Peter was impetuous, Paul a persecutor and the list goes on and on. Outside the Bible, persons like Augustine was a skeptic, agnostic, deluded and indecisive, C.S. Lewis was an atheist, Tozer a shy kid and again, the list goes on and on.

You don’t have to be the greatest sinner to experience the grace of God.

But you do have to be humble, honest and broken before Him, whom we have fallen short of His glory.

Their lives are a lot like us, full of mistakes, hostilities, infirmities and pain. Man may deem them impossible to tolerate and condemn them or on the other end of the spectrum; worship their lives full of fallacies. But for these faithful servants of God, man’s view is useless as they set their eyes and hearts on things above, incorruptible and unseen.

We may have committed grave sins; sins that put us unto a bondage now and for certain we will be committing sins in the future. Sin leads us to perdition, abolishes our soul, destroys our bodies.

Yet in the midst of our wrong decisions, only one right decision counts; that is the truth, reality and power of the gospel and this is enough to get us back on track.

Let us fix our eyes on Him, the author, perfecter of our faith, and the artificer of salvation. Let him have His way, the incarnate God. The King of kings and the Lord of lords; Jesus.

This blog is inspired by my friend who passed away: Paola, she made that one important decision amidst the pain and it brought her eternal life.
