The One Relationship we need to build.

When our internet buffers or when there is a problem with our communication lines, or when we have a misunderstanding with someone we quickly get agitated (atleast I am). But when it comes to our relationship with God and our communication lines with him, sometimes we take it for granted.

A relationship gets stronger when there is communication between the two parties. Every friendship grows stronger the more moments that they shared, more secrets they revealed (and hopefully kept) and more memories they built. The same way we try to build our relationship with people is the same way we should build our relationship with God. People today see devotion/quiet time (that’s reading the bible, praying and taking a time to pause and reflect) as another ‘religious duty’.

In a way it is, BUT IT IS MORE THAN THAT. Until we see that bible reading is God’s way of talking to us and prayer is our way of talking to God, we fail to see the value of this amazing time in our every day lives.

Imagine, the God that existed before all time, the God that is in control, the God that will remain even after your project is done, your work is done, your friends are gone, your very life is done…that is the God that we have access every single day. And in the same way that communication brings life to a relationship, food brings life to our bodies, the Word of God and communication with him brings life to our spirit.

But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say,‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” – Matthew 4:4

Let us not miss this great opportunity and not get distracted by the busyness of work/school, life, friendships, tasks and ministry and take time to communicate with God who desires to build memories, share thoughts and relate with us.
